The America Red Cross reports that more than 1.6 million people were diagnosed with cancer last year. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment. Including cancer patients, more than 41,000 blood donations are needed every day.
Two members of our team are starting a tradition around Pure of giving back to the community through the American Red Cross.
After donating blood together this past January, Jeff and Rani visited a blood drive in Waltham on Tuesday to donate again. Jeff is able to give a double red cell donation. A double red cell donation is similar to a whole blood donation, except a special machine is used to allow you to safely donate two units of red blood cells during one donation while returning your plasma and platelets to you.
That means he not only is able to give more, he also feels better after the donation. With all of your platelets and plasma returned to you along with some saline, you don’t lose the liquid portion of your blood and may feel more hydrated after your donation.
Although many of our team members wanted to participate and donate this month, there are many conditions required to be eligible. Find out if you are eligible here. You can also find out if you are eligible for a double red cell donation here.
We hope to inspire our clients and community to find ways to give back every day. Find a blood drive happening in your community.
