While our services won’t keep these pests from your home on Trick or Treat night, there is one pest in particular you and your family should look out for. Depending on weather, Halloween can be a very active time for adult deer ticks that carry harmful pathogens.
If you are trick or treating in tick habitat, take these extra precautions when designing your costume to prevent tick bites:
- Especially if the trick or treaters will be walking through brushy or grassy areas, wear loose-fitting, light-colored long pants.
- Wear light colored socks and tuck the pants into socks.
- Tape closed any openings in your costume like sleeves or pant legs.
- Choose a light-colored costume if possible to make it easier to notice if a tick has landed on you.
- Inspect the costume as you remove it to ensure that no tick is hidden in any of the folds.
- Put the costume in the dryer, if possible, and set it on high heat to kill any ticks still on the clothing.
- Inspect your four-legged friends, even if they are in costume, before heading inside the house.
We hope you have a safe and happy Halloween!
